Vassiliki Lefkas travel guide

The Lefkas island resort of Vassiliki, sometimes called Vassilikos, has a big reputation for windsurfing thanks to a unique microclimate.

The resort is set in a large bay on the south coast of Lefkas and it's the biggest holiday spot after Nidri, although it has a permanent population of only about 400.

As well as a family beach holiday resort Vassiliki is also a major windsurfing centre thanks to the large bay of shallow water and strong afternoon breezes that create ideal conditions for the sport.

On some days in high summer there can be more than 100 windsurfers streaking across the bay, an impressive sight.

The resort is strung around the bay with several tavernas and bars along the shoreline and the usual village facilities.

Tavernas are also clustered around the small harbour at the eastern end of the beach. Ferries call in here from Kefalonia and Ithaca in the summer season.

Vassiliki beach is very long and mainly pebble with some shingle and sand. The shallow seas make it a good beach for families with children but they must beware the many sailboards.

A large campsite caters mainly for surfers and local hotels pride themselves on special facilities for windsurfers.

There are excursion boats in the summer season and a regular daily bus service to Lefkas Town, but no Sunday service.
